  The review was commissioned by HEFCE in response to concerns about falling numbers of language students and funding provision at HE.
• What are the trends in HE language degree learning in the UK? 04/09/09
  The number of first-degree language undergraduates in UK higher education decreased at the end of the 1990's. Data from 2002/3 to 2007/08 shows that the overall number of first-degree language undergraduates decreased by 4%.
• Which languages are experiencing increases or decreases in student numbers at HE level? 03/09/09
  Languages show different trends of take-up among language degree students.

Under the programme, nine Regional consortia of universities representing every region in England have been established to work in partnership with other stakeholders, local colleges and schools, in order to widen participation in language learning from Key Stage 4 onwards.
