The Open School for Languages (MYLO) is a
brand new online learning tool de
signed to get young people engaging with languages in
an innovative, creative and imaginative way. Initially aimed at Key
Stage 3, it will engage learners both independently and in the
classroom through a range of activities that have been designed to
make languages more ‘real’. The languages covered by the service
will be French, German, Spanish and Mandarin.
The vision for MYLO is to help more young
people discover the relevance and value of languages by switching
them on to language learning and holding their interest. The
service will equip teachers with varied, flexible, compelling and
innovative new techniques to engage learners in and out of the
classroom.
Lightbox Education is working with leading
language learning specialists to develop content and promote the
service. CILT is a key partner, along with Cambridge
University, ALL and the University of Salford.
MYLO is due to be launched in March 2010, but
there’s a sneak preview of
the site. Here, you can sign up for our newsletter, register
your school and sample one of the activities.
