Working together: doing old things in new
ways
This project involves Primary and Secondary
teachers working together in a realistic and genuine way to enhance
transition between their schools. The method and ideas we propose
here can easily be adapted for other languages or different
contexts to suit the interests of particular learners.
The objective of the project was to produce some guidance,
sample lesson plans and materials which will allow teachers to
build on prior learning with greater cognitive challenge and
engagement for pupils.
The philosophy behind all our planning is that schools can
follow prescriptively our suggested session content, or
alternatively adapt and lengthen them to suit their individual
needs. For example, a Year 6 teacher may want to look at these
topics on a French Project Day, or develop them further and
dedicate time to look at climate, animals and descriptions of a
particular French speaking country for example over a period of
weeks.
Resources and SOW produced by teachers involved in this project
seek to provide access to French for as many of our learners as
possible. We have sought to consider the Key Stage 2 Framework and
the new Secondary Curriculum, the Big Picture. We have also
suggested elements of ICT, Numeracy, Literacy, and Differentiated
Work. We are committed to raising knowledge and awareness but also
to developing enjoyment and interest. Read more about this project
